IBM Initiate Systems: CloverETL as an Embedded Data Integration Application

IBM Initiate Systems was faced with a product development decision, where they had to consider a classic "make-buy" -- should they develop a data integration/ETL module or should they look for an OEM solution. The Initiate team chose Clover.

CloverETL worked because typical ETL software did not provide the flexibility or extensibility needed to embed into a wider offer. Initiate needed an application which would extract, transform and load data between the Initiate Master Data Service® platform and external systems, simplifying implementation and enhancing the end-user experience.

CloverETL, with its small footprint, large functionality and simple extensibility was a perfect fit for the IBM Initiate Master Data Management (MDM) solution. In addition, the ease of its integration allowed to quickly implement MDM around CloverETL’s core functions – it was so easy. In short, CloverETL, as an embedded part of the solution provides key aspects such as flexible connectivity, data integration, validation, enrichment and the speed required to support evolving client MDM requirements.

Today, CloverETL provides four unique attributes that enhance IBM's Initiate Master Data Service.

First, CloverETL extends the functionality by providing data validation, enrichment and data processing. Its tight integration allows the Initiate Master Data Service to use all the features and functions of CloverETL.
Second, CloverETL acts as a seamless interface between and among external data systems and Initiate's Master Data Service. Data are easily integrated and CloverETL is aligned to enable better, easier and faster communications as well as seamless connections to external systems.
Third, CloverETL enables rapid implementation of projects. Because CloverETL is readily customizable, there are no specialized requirements that can’t quickly be resolved.
Fourth, CloverETL provides an extendable Eclipse-based design-time environment. Integration with the IBM Initiate Master Data Service Workbench tool is extremely simple.

CloverETL is a data integration platform based on Java. It can be used for many ETL and data management tasks such as data integration, data migration, or data quality. CloverETL can be run as a standalone application or embedded into third party business intelligence (BI) or master data management (MDM) solutions. The CloverETL data integration platform provides means to integrate data from disparate enterprise systems as from ERP or CRM systems to provide a unified view on critical business metrics.
